(WASHINGTON) — A woman suspected of sending an envelope that contains the poison ricin, which was addressed to White Household, has been arrested at New York-Canada border, three legislation enforcement officers told The Involved Press on Sunday.

The letter experienced been intercepted earlier this week right before it attained the White Household. The female was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Safety officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing near Buffalo and is predicted to deal with federal fees, the officers stated. Her identify was not promptly introduced.

The letter dealt with to the White Residence appeared to have originated in Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have mentioned. It was intercepted at a govt facility that screens mail dealt with to the White House and President Donald Trump and a preliminary investigation indicated it tested optimistic for ricin, in accordance to the officers.

The officers were not authorized to examine the ongoing investigation publicly and spoke on affliction of anonymity.

There have been various prior occasions in which U.S. officials have been specific with ricin despatched by the mail.

A Navy veteran was arrested in 2018 and confessed to sending envelopes to Trump and users of his administration that contained the substance from which ricin is derived. The letters have been intercepted, and no just one was harm.

In 2014, a Mississippi man was sentenced to 25 several years in jail soon after sending letters dusted with ricin to President Barack Obama and other officers.
