American juvenile Golden Pal has been scratched from the Coolmore Nunthorpe at York.
The son of Uncle Mo looked set to offer his trainer Wesley Ward with a 3rd victory in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, only to be mowed down in the shadow of the put up by Michael Bell’s The Lir Jet.
Ward has a score to settle in the Nunthorpe, owning viewed equally Acapulco and Lady Aurelia finish next on the Knavesmire – and as he would get lumps of pounds from his elders, Golden Pal was seen as a leading contender for Friday’s five-furlong Group 1.
Having said that, Ward verified to the Global Racing Bureau on Sunday evening that his youngster would not be creating the trans-Atlantic vacation – and Weatherbys released an official scratched notification shortly right after 9am on Monday.
“Golden Pal is not coming,” reported IRB director Adrian Beaumont.
“We received an e-mail from Wesley right away, saying he had been taking into consideration a race at Saratoga in opposition to the Nunthorpe. Searching at the climate forecast for York and certainly the opposition, he is made a decision to hold him at home and run at Saratoga instead.
“It was a late determination – the horse would have been shipping and delivery tomorrow (Tuesday) if he was likely to run at York.”
